ADHD Assessments

Birkenhead Medical Centre is not offering ADHD assessments at this time, and this is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. If you wish to pursue an ADHD assessment, please book an appointment with your GP to discuss appropriate specialist referral options. We will continue to provide ongoing care and prescriptions for patients who have already completed a formal ADHD assessment and have an established diagnosis, in line with clinical guidance. If this service becomes available in the future, we will update our website.

12 Month Prescriptions

From 1 February 2026, some patients may be eligible to receive prescriptions for up to 12 months, following changes to national prescribing rules. This is not automatic. Whether a longer prescription is suitable and for how long, depends on your individual health needs, medication, and safety considerations, and is always decided by your GP. A 12 month prescription may be considered if your condition and medication are stable, monitoring is up to date, and regular dose changes or frequent reviews are not required. Not all medicines are suitable for 12-month prescribing. Some medications, including controlled drugs and medicines that need closer monitoring, will continue to be prescribed at shorter intervals. Even if you receive a longer prescription, you will still need regular reviews, tests, or check ins as advised by your GP. A review date will always be set. If approved, prescriptions must be filled at the same pharmacy, with medicines collected in 3 month amounts (or 6 months for the oral contraceptive pill).
